A new early year’s programme is set to launch in Salford this May, offering a welcoming space for young children and their families to learn, play and connect. Roots & Rhythms – Play, Explore, and Learn Together will take place at Pendleton Library, starting on 11 May, running from 10am to 11am, and delivered as a series of 10 weekly sessions.

Designed for children aged 0–5, with a particular focus on those aged 3–5, the sessions aim to support early development through a mix of storytelling, creative play and sensory activities. Delivered in a relaxed and friendly environment, the programme encourages children to explore, express themselves and engage with new experiences at their own pace.

Each session brings together simple, engaging activities that help develop early communication skills, stimulate curiosity and support learning through play. Storytelling and shared reading play a central role, alongside hands-on creative activities and sensory experiences designed to make learning both accessible and enjoyable for young children.

A key feature of Roots & Rhythms is its bilingual approach. Sessions are delivered in both English and Portuguese, giving children the opportunity to become familiar with both languages in a natural and engaging way. This early exposure supports communication skills while also reflecting and celebrating the cultural diversity of the local community.

Parents and carers are encouraged to take part in the sessions, creating a shared experience that supports children’s development both during the sessions and at home. Beyond the activities themselves, the programme also provides an opportunity for families to connect with others in a welcoming and supportive community setting.
