Lusoconnectionuk is proud to announce its Black History Month 2025 celebration, taking place on Saturday 18th October, from 2pm to 8pm at Elm Bank Conference Centre in Eccles, Manchester.

This year’s theme, “From Labour to Empowerment – Celebrating Lusophone Black Women”, honours the journeys, resilience, and achievements of women from the Lusophone (Portuguese-speaking) African diaspora.

The programme will bring together inspiring voices, culture, and community:

• – Panel Discussion moderated by Lucia Correia (mentor and Public Speaker), exploring themes of identity, resilience, and empowerment. Panellists include:
  • – Adiato Baldé-Wharton, Pharmaceutical Scientist/Cosmetic Safety Assessor (Guinea-Bissau)
    
    
  • – Marli Mara Gomes, Beauty Entrepreneur (Angola/Portugal)
    
    
  • – Cristina Cabral, Advocate for Inclusive Media Representation / Cultural Researcher on Race, Childhood & Media (Cape Verde)
    
    
  • – Lauryn Cabral, Activist & Author / Global Child Prodigy Awardee in 2025 (São Tomé & Cape Verde)
    
    
  • – Tania Camara, Advocate for Arts and Culture (Guinea-Bissau)
    
    
  • – Vera Jus, Human Rights Defender & Founder of AfroID (Brazil)
    
    
• – Cultural experiences with traditional food, stalls from local creatives, and performances by Filipe Santo, and Creolas de Salford.
  
  
• – A Batuku workshop and fashion show by São Toméan designer Laura will close the evening with music, movement, and celebration.

This event is free and open to all, creating a welcoming space for people of every background to connect, learn, and celebrate.
